  1. Battle of Mogadishu

The Battle of Mogadishu, also known as Operation Gothic Serpent, was a military operation conducted by the United States military in 1993 during the Somali Civil War. The operation was designed to remove the Somali Democratic Republic military forces from the city of Mogadishu and to secure key political objectives in the city.

The battle began on October 3, 1993 and lasted until October 12. The U.S. forces were initially successful in their objectives, but were ultimately unable to dislodge the SDR forces from the city. As a result, the U.S. forces were forced to withdraw from Mogadishu on October 12. The battle resulted in the deaths of more than 3,000 U.S. military personnel and civilians, as well as an estimated 25,000 Somali civilians.

Escape from Mogadishu is a 2009 American war drama film directed by Paul Greengrass and written by Jamie Bell and Paul Greengrass. The film stars Tom Hanks, Barkhad Abdi, and Faysal Ahmed. It is based on the 1993 novel of the same name by Somali-Canadian author Mohamed Yusuf.

The film tells the story of a U.S. Special Forces team that is sent to Mogadishu to rescue two American diplomats who have been kidnapped by Somali militants. The team is forced to fight their way out of the city, against overwhelming odds.

Escape from Mogadishu was highly praised by critics, who praised its portrayal of the battle sequences and its direction. It was also a commercial success, grossing over $187 million worldwide.
